Internet Architecture Board (IAB) Seeking Comments on “Evolution of IP Model”
The Internet Architecture Board (IAB) put out a request today for comments on a draft they have out:
The title and abstract are:
Evolution of the IP Model
This draft attempts to document various aspects of the IP service model and how it has evolved over time. In particular, it attempts to document the properties of the IP layer as they are seen by upper- layer protocols and applications, and especially properties which were (and at times still are) incorrectly perceived to exist, as well as properties that would cause problems if changed. Finally, it provides some guidance to protocol designers and implementers.
It’s definitely an interesting read for those of us (like me) who are interested in the underlying network-layer infrastructure behind the Internet and all IP networks.
Olaf Kolkman, the IAB Chair, sent out a notice today asking for comments by December 19, 2010. He doesn’t state how he wants the comments, but I would assume through the usual IETF mailing lists or directly to iab-chair@iab.org.
